Apache Junction, AZ : One person killed in a traffic accident at Idaho Road and Southern Avenue on Sunday afternoon, March 27, 2016

One person was killed in a traffic accident in Apache Junction on Sunday afternoon, police said.

The accident occurred about 4:30 p.m., at Idaho Road and Southern Avenue, according to Apache Junction police spokesman Capt. Troy Mullender.

The intersection remained closed Sunday evening, and police did not have an estimate of when it would reopen, Mullender said.

The T-bone collision involved a pickup truck and a small passenger car. The person killed was traveling in the passenger car, and two other people traveling in the same car were taken to a local hospital for injuries, according to Mullender.

Two other vehicles were damaged by "flying debris" from the collision. The exact cause of the collision was unknown and under investigation, Mullender said.
