Nevada County, CA : Driver died after hitting two trees, causing two-hour power outage Nevada City early Friday morning, July 29, 2016

A driver died early Friday morning after hitting two trees in Nevada City, causing two-hour power outage in the area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at 4:10 a.m. on Cement Hill Road when the 32-year-old driver from Nevada City drove his GMC pickup truck east off the right side of the road, onto a dirt shoulder and hit a large tree, officers said.

The truck continued east and hit another large tree, which broke and left debris on PG&E power lines causing a power outage, the CHP said.

A truck caught fire and was extinguished by nearby residents, CHP said.

The driver died at the scene. His name has not been released. The driver was wearing his seatbelt, and the driver’s side airbag deployed, officers said.

It is unclear what caused the crash, but it was not drug- or alcohol-related, investigators said.

Cement Hill Road was closed for about two hours, but had minimal effect on traffic.
