LIBERTY, NC : Eastern N.C. man killed in wreck near Liberty on Tuesday, August 8, 2017

A 27-year-old man from Greenville, N.C., was killed Tuesday afternoon when his car ran off U.S. 421 and struck a tree, according to a report from the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Edward James Turner was northbound in a Ford passenger car at about 2:40 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle about 2.3 miles north of Liberty. Trooper K.L. Brooks reported that the car ran off the road to the right and traveled down an embankment before striking a tree. Turner, who was alone, died at the scene.
