Four Yakima County residents were taken to a Yakima hospital early Friday morning after being involved in a crash near Wapato.
Yakima County sheriff’s deputies said Antonio Martinez, 23, of Wapato was driving north near the 6900 block of Lateral A Road when he crossed the centerline of the two-lane road about 5:40 a.m. and hit a 2001 Chevy Blazer driven by 45-year-old Simon Gutierrez of Yakima.
The 2000 Mazda Protege Martinez was driving remained in the roadway, but the SUV traveled into a ditch, deputies said. Firefighters worked about an hour get Martinez out of the vehicle.
Martinez’s left thighbone was fractured. His passenger, 23-year-old Amberae Sweowat, also of Wapato, had a deep cut to one of her legs in addition to other cuts and bruises, according to deputies. Gutierrez and passenger Jesus Rodriguez, 28, of Zillah, had cuts and bruises, according to deputies.
