Howard County, MD : 21-year-old woman dies in a single-vehicle crash in Ellicott City early Saturday, September 10, 2016

A 21-year-old woman died and a 24-year-old man was injured in a single-vehicle crash in Ellicott City early Saturday, Howard County police said.

Audrey Elizabeth Birmingham, 21, of Baltimore, was riding in a 2014 Chevy Cruze driven by Daniel Cody Lipscomb, 24, of Taneytown, when the car left the road for an unknown reason and struck a tree, police said.

The crash occurred at about 3 a.m. on southbound Columbia Road near Hemlock Cone Way.

Birmingham was pronounced dead at the scene. Lipscomb was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non life-threatening injuries.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Columbia Road was closed in both directions between Hemlock Cone Way and Keenan Drive for about four hours.
