Woodland, CA : Two women dies in I-5 car crash near Zamora on Sunday, April 9, 2017
Two women are dead, including one from Woodland, following a traffic collision Sunday on Interstate-5 near Zamora.
The California Highway Patrol reported the accident occurred around 9:54 a.m. in northbound I-5, south of County Road 13.
The CHP’s Rodney Fitzhugh reported that initial information gathered from the scene, indicates a 2012 Mitsubishi was traveling south on I-5, just south of CR13, in the slow lane of traffic, when it changed lanes moving into the fast lane and directly in front of a GMC.
The Mitsubishi was being driven by Tammy Ketcherside, 51, from Woodland, the GMC by someone who is unknown to the CHP.
As Ketcherside’s Mitsubishi changed lanes it collided with the GMC, Fitzhugh reported.
The Mitsubishi then traveled from the left southbound lane, across the center median and into the northbound lanes of I-5.
“As the Mitsubishi continued traveling in a southerly direction within the northbound lanes, it collided with a Dodge traveling northbound in the right lane,” Fitzhugh reported.
The 2016 Dodge was being driven by Kathleen McBride, 67, of Havana, Illinois.
Both Ketcherside and McBride died at the crash scene as a result of the impact.
There was no indication from the CHP as to how fast the vehicles were traveling when they collided.
Ketcherside was traveling alone.
A passenger of McBride’s, 63-year-old Patrick McBride, also of Havana, suffered major injuries and was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.
Additionally, as a result of the collision, a 2015 Chevrolet, traveling northbound in the fast lane of traffic, driven by Eduardo Jurado, 26, of Sacramento collided with debris from the Mitsubishi after the crash and was damaged. However, while no injuries were reported for Jurado, a 24-year-old passenger, Marisa Fierro of Sacramento, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to the UC Davis Med Center.
Fitzhugh reported that as of Monday it was unknown if alcohol and/or drugs are a factor in this collision.
