2-TRUCK COLLISION SLOWS I-95 TRAFFIC
Two drivers were injured Wednesday morning when their trucks collided in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near mile marker 329.
The trucks, a semi pulling two trailers and a Ford dump truck, were both traveling in the right lane around 6 a.m. when the driver of the semitrailer “failed to observe” the dump truck and collided with the rear of the vehicle, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The semitrailer veered left across the highway, struck a guardrail and came to rest, partially, on the northbound median, the release said.
The dump truck spun clockwise onto the west shoulder of the roadway and came to rest facing northeast.
The drivers sustained only minor injuries and neither was transported to the hospital, according to the release.
According to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, the crash blocked two lanes of southbound traffic as crews worked to clean up the wreckage and an associated fuel leak.
WOMAN FOUND ASLEEP IN CAR WITH INFANT
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Duval County woman Tuesday evening after deputies said they found her asleep in the front seat of car parked near a gas pump in Ponte Vedra Beach.
Amanda Marie Ray, 29, was booked into the St. Johns County jail on charges of child neglect, possession of heroin, grand theft auto, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license, according to a Wednesday news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies originally responded to the gas station at 40 Settlement Drive to a report of a woman sleeping in a vehicle. According to the release, one deputy observed Ray sleeping with an infant in her lap. After she was awakened, a computer check revealed the tag did not belong to the vehicle she was in. Further investigation determined the car was reported stolen in Kentucky, according to the release.
Deputies who searched the vehicle said they found numerous syringes, items considered to be drug paraphernalia and a substance that tested positive for heroin, the release said.
The child was handed over to a relative.
Ray is being held in lieu of bonds totalling $11,000.
