Edgewater, MD : Passenger seriously hurt, Driver ran away from crash on Sunday night, January 8, 2017

Authorities are looking for a driver who fled the scene after his passenger was thrown from a vehicle during a crash.

Anne Arundel County Fire Department officials said 22-year-old Secundito Diaz was seriously injured Sunday night when the pickup truck he was riding in overturned in Edgewater.

Police say the unidentified driver left Diaz at the scene and ran from the area.

A fire department spokesman says Diaz, who was not wearing a seatbelt, is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police, K9 and helicopter searched for the driver but weren’t able to find him. Investigators believe he was later seen calling for a ride near the SpringHill Suites hotel in Annapolis.

Authorities say the driver had been speeding. Alcohol is also suspected as a factor.
