Ruskin, FL : A 32-year-old Ruskin man died Saturday night when he was struck by a pickup after he had stopped to help others who were involved in a crash on U.S. 41
A 32-year-old Bay area man who stopped to render assistance to drivers involved in a two-vehicle crash on US Highway 41 was struck and killed Saturday night in Ruskin.
Chad Louis Ries was pronounced dead at the scene just before 10:30 p.m.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report stopped his 2012 Volkswagen Routan on the southbound outside lane of the roadway to see if those involved in the collision needed help. When Ries exited his vehicle he was struck by a 2003 Ford F-150 driven by 22-year-old Angel Hernandez of Ruskin.
Hernandez and his passenger, 22-year-old Andrew Hernandez of Riverview, were not injured.
Ries was traveling with his wife, Christen Ries. She was not injured.
The report states that alcohol did not play a factor in the crash. So far no charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
No information is available on the crash Ries stopped for.
