Punta Gorda, FL: One injured in a vehcle crash caused by man driving the wrong way Kings Highway in Charlotte County on Saturday morning, 15th November 2014
A man driving the wrong way on Kings Highway in Charlotte County caused a crash this morning and was arrested on drunken driving charges, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The report says Frank Schallmoser, 29, of Punta Gorda was traveling north in the southbound lanes of Kings Highway south of Tiseo Boulevard shortly after 2 a.m. today in a 2012 Nissan Altima. A southbound 2006 Toyota XB driven by Robyn Bombenger, 42, of Port Charlotte attempted to turn to avoid a head-on collision, and collided with the Nissan, which left the roadway and overturned on its left side. The Toyota spun counter-clockwise, coming to rest in the median.
Bombenger was treated for minor injuries at Bayfront Port Charlotte, while Schallmoser was arrested and taken to the Charlotte County jail, where he faces charges of DUI, driving on the wrong side of a divided highway, failure to stop/yield to an emergency vehicle, and unknowingly operating a motor vehicle while license suspended.
