13-year-old killed in Douglas car crash in Georgia
A 13-year-old girl was killed in a two-vehicle wreck Sunday afternoon. It happened on I-20 westbound near the Fairburn Road exit.
The vehicle the teen was a passenger in left the roadway, careening into a wooded area. The female driver was ejected. A male passenger was also injured. Both adults were flown to Atlanta Medical Center according to Douglasville police Lt. Brad Loudermilk. The driver was in critical condition while the passenger's injuries were not considered life-threatening. He was in stable condition. All three were family members according to police.The three occupants in the other vehicle were all taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.Officers said it appears the first vehicle changed lanes into the side of the second vehicle. This caused the second vehicle to leave the road and hit several trees. Officers arriving to the scene found the teen deceased inside the vehicle.Douglas County Coroner Randy Daniel said the girl's body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations lab to document the girl's injuries. He said this process is routine.The victims' names have not been released pending notification of next of kin. The vehicle the teen was riding in had an Alabama tag. The other vehicle was local according to police.
