Ontario,CA: Pomona man killed, 5 people hurt in 60 Freeway crash in Diamond Bar on November, Sunday 26th 2017

A Pomona man died and five other people were injured, including a baby, in a violent crash between a pickup truck and a car on the 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar early Sunday, officials said.

The deadly collision took place just after 3 a.m. on the eastbound freeway, just west of Diamond Bar Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 29-year-old Pomona man died in the crash, which also left two women and a 1-year-old girl hospitalized with major injuries, Officer D. Sevilla of the CHP’s Baldwin Park-area office said in a statement.

A 2001 Chevrolet Impala had just been involved in a minor collision with another car and was disabled in the carpool lane just prior to the fatal crash, officials said. The Impala was being driven by a 30-year-old Pomona woman, with the 29-year-old Pomona man, the baby and the little girl riding as passengers.

A 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck being driven by a 32-year-old Hesperia man approached the disabled Impala from behind, Sevilla said. A 31-year-old Hesperia woman rode as a passenger in the truck.

“Due to (the Silverado driver) driving at an unsafe speed for the existing traffic conditions, the front of the Chevrolet Silverado collided into the left rear of the Chevrolet Impala,” Sevilla said in the written statement.

The seatbelts of the man riding as her passenger and the baby had been unfastened following the previous crash, “and they were in the process of exiting their vehicle when the collision occurred,” Sevilla said.

Both the man and baby were thrown from the Impala in the crash, officials said. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.
