Brunswick, North Carolina
A Wilmington man was killed when his vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on Highway 17 early Thursday.
According to Brunswick County dispatch, the call came in just before 6 a.m. near Galloway Road in Bolivia.
Sgt. Chris Williams with the State Highway Patrol said the vehicle was traveling south on Hwy 17 in the left lane.
According to Trooper John King, a tractor-trailer was making a left turn onto Hwy 17 north when a vehicle ahead of it stopped in the median, forcing the tractor-trailer to come to a stop as well. The 18-wheeler's trailer remained across the southbound lanes of Hwy 17.
King says David Christopher Satrazemis, 62, was killed instantly when he crashed into the trailer and "decapitated" the top of his vehicle. A male passenger suffered a non-life-threatening head injury and was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Williams said it appears the passenger was asleep before the wreck because the seat was laid all the way back.
