Redding, CA : Car drives through fence, hits wall of school in Redding on Wednesday, December 3, 2014
A car crashed through a fence and into an exterior wall at Parsons Jr. High on Hartnell Avenue this afternoon.
The crash, reported just after 2:08 p.m. at 750 Hartnell Ave., occurred when the driver of a black Pontiac swerved to avoid what he thought was an oncoming car in his lane, Redding police said.
Witnesses told police there was no vehicle near his car, police said.
He crashed through the fence and into an exterior wall near the school library.
No one was hurt, paramedics said.
Firefighters said the structure appeared safe as only an exterior wall was hit.
Police said the driver was traveling too fast for the wet conditions and his front tires were in bad shape. They said alcohol and drugs don't appear to have played a role in the crash.
Drivers should slow down at least 5 mph below the speed limit in rain, make sure their windshield wipers work and turn their headlights on in rainy conditions, police said.
