TROY, IL : Wooster family survives fatal crash on February, Friday 16th 2018

A cross-country vacation came to an early end for one Wooster family on Friday.

The family of four plus a friend was traveling west in a 2012 Toyota Sienna on Interstate 70 near Troy, Illinois when it was struck by a 2014 Ford Fiesta traveling the wrong direction on the highway at 12:10 a.m. on Feb. 16.

According to Illinois State Police, a 25-year-old male driving the white Ford Fiesta was ejected from the vehicle upon impact and pronounced dead at the scene. His 37-year-old passenger was transported to a St. Louis hospital with serious injuries.

The Toyota Sienna was driven by a 22-year-old female and carried four other passengers between the ages of 19 and 55. Four were transported to St. Louis hospitals, including the driver, and the fifth was treated and released.

The crash is currently under investigation. Trooper Steve Kerley did not expect any charges since the driver of the car traveling the wrong direction died at the scene.

“Gillian’s Story” on CaringBridge.org is providing updates on the Butdorf family, whose 22-year-old daughter, Gillian, was at the wheel at the time of the crash, according to the page’s administrator.

The family of four were traveling with a family friend when their car was struck outside of St. Louis. The father, Chris, and friend Ethan were treated and released.

Gillian and her mother, Cynthia, were transported with serious injuries to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Gillian’s brother, Trace, was transported to St. Louis University Medical Center ICU for observation of injuries.
