NASHVILLE, TN : Friend remembers man killed in hit-and-run crash on I-40 on Monday, November 21st, 2016
Metro police continue searching for a driver responsible for a deadly hit-and-run.
Alvaro Bartlett was killed on Interstate 40 West near Nashville International Airport Monday afternoon when police said a truck hit him and kept going.
"He was very positive, very uplifting, very funny and outgoing," said Amy Cornell of San Antonio, TX, speaking to Channel 4 by Skype. "He always had a way to make you laugh."
Cornell said she first met Bartlett at a family event years ago during a time her aunt was fostering him.
"He introduced himself to us," she remembered. "He was like, 'Hey, what's up? I'm Bubba,' and that's what we always called him, Bubba. It fit his personality so well."
Cornell said it didn't take long for Bartlett to feel like part of the family.
Monday around 2 p.m., Metro police said Bartlett was riding on I-40 West near the airport when his mother said she heard something fall off the car. Police said she pulled over, and Bartlett got out to inspect when he was hit by a yellow pickup truck with gray primer spots. The truck never stopped.
