Ventura, CA : 25-year-old Man in critical condition after crash in Ventura on Highway 101 Sunday on August 17, 2014

A 25-year-old man was taken to the hospital with major injuries after he was struck by two vehicles Sunday on Highway 101 after he tried to assist with a separate crash, officials said. The Ventura City Fire Department responded about 1:15 a.m. to the crash at the Telephone Road exit on southbound 101 and found the man lying in the middle lanes, officials said. The Garden Grove man apparently left his vehicle after pulling onto the side of the road to assist with a crash he had witnessed, officials said. He was hit by a passing vehicle and then run over by a second vehicle. The man suffered serious injuries and was stabilized before being taken to the hospital, officials said. The California Highway Patrol also responded to the crash and said the first crash occurred about 1:10 a.m. A Chevy Avalanche veered to the right and hit a guardrail and a streetlight before striking the center divider, officials said.
