Mt. Olive man dies in Gardendale crash

A 19-year-old man was killed Thursday night in a three-car crash in Gardendale.Cody Franklin Rutledge, of Mt. Olive, was pronounced dead on the scene just after 8 p.m., said Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Phillip Russell.Witnesses told authorities Rutledge was driving northbound on Main Street in Gardendale when he ran a red light. His 1998 Toyota 4-Runner was clipped by a 2009 Mazda 6 that was traveling eastbound on Fieldstown Road. The collision caused Rutledge to lose control. His SUV flipped several times in the intersection and rolled across the top of a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, which was stopped in a turn lane.
