LAURENS COUNTY, SC : Coroner identifies Lander University student killed in single-vehicle crash on February, Friday 23rd 2018
The Laurens County Coroner's Office said a Lander University student has died after crashing into a guardrail and a monument on Thursday night.
Troopers say the collision happened just before 11:30 p.m. near Ware Shoals. The driver of a 1999 Ford Mustang was traveling south on U.S. 25 when they drove off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail and a monument, troopers say.
The victim was identified as 19-year-old James Logan Lusk of Pickens. Lusk was a student at Lander University and he died on the scene.
The coroner said Lusk, who was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, suffered blunt force head trauma.
Lusk's mother, Angela Lusk, said they were notified of the tragic news around 1 a.m. She said the family is in shock and grief.
According to Angela Lusk, her son was studying at Lander University and wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon.
