Pleasanton, CA : Brentwood man dead after fiery crash on I-580 near the Hopyard Road on Wednesday morning, April 27, 2016

Four cars and a big rig were involved in a collision east of San Francisco Wednesday morning that killed one person and snarled the morning commute.

The East Bay Times reports that California Highway Patrol Officer Ron Simmons says the crash on westbound I-580 happened in Pleasanton around 5:55 a.m.

The gender, name and age of the person who was killed was not released. Simmons says no one else in the crash appeared to be injured.

Three lanes were blocked following the crash, and the CHP issued a severe traffic alert at 6 a.m. Traffic was expected to back up to the Altamont Pass in Livermore for some time. There was no estimated time for the lanes to be open, the newspaper reported.
