Elderly woman killed in Howard County crash

Howard County police said a medical condition could be to blame for a fatal crash Thursday evening.

Police said Doris Lee Johnson, 82, was driving a 2009 Toyota RAV4 on Marriottsville Road in the area of Driver Road when her vehicle left the road and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to turn onto its side.

Johnson was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigation indicates Johnson may have suffered some type of serious medical emergency prior to the crash.

Police said she was wearing her seat belt and it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
