Salem, OR : Pedestrian dies in Highway 42 crash on Friday, February 3rd 2017
A Roseburg woman died as a result of her injuries suffered when she was hit by a vehicle Friday on Highway 42 near Landers Lane in the Green area.
According to a press release from Oregon State Police, Claude F. Stump, 76, of Roseburg, was driving west on Highway 42 in a 2007 Lincoln sedan when his vehicle struck Tami Lee Cairns, 57, of Roseburg, who was walking in the lane of travel. There was no crosswalk.
Oregon State Police troopers responded to the scene at approximately 8:35 p.m. Emergency personnel pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation showed neither alcohol nor speed were factors in the collision, and Stump was wearing his seat belt at the time.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Fire District No. 2, Winston Dillard Fire and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted the OSP Troopers. All lanes of travel were closed for about 10 minutes before the eastbound lanes were reopened.
