Corvallis, OR : Three hurt in crash outside Philomath on Friday, 12th August, 2016
Three people went to the hospital Friday afternoon after a two-car collision south of Philomath that sparked a small fire and disrupted traffic.
The crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. Friday when a minivan struck a pickup truck at the intersection of Bellfountain Road and Airport Avenue, according to Benton County Sheriff Scott Jackson.
Based on a report from a deputy at the scene, Jackson said, it appears that the minivan was traveling west on Airport and ran the stop sign at Bellfountain, striking the northbound pickup in the side. Both vehicles came to rest off the road just northwest of the intersection.
Power lines knocked down in the crash started a fire in grass and brush on the side of the road, but it was quickly extinguished.
The driver of the pickup and the driver and passenger of the minivan were taken to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis with non-life-threatening injuries, Jackson said.
There were no other occupants in either vehicle.
The identities of the people involved were not immediately available Friday. The crash remained under investigation, but Jackson said it was likely that the van driver would be cited.
Traffic was halted at the intersection, an important crossroads in a rural section of south Benton County. The road remained blocked as of 6 p.m.
A number of agencies responded to the incident, including the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Philomath Police Department, Philomath Fire & Rescue, Corvallis Fire Department and Oregon Department of Forestry. At least one privately owned firefighting rig also turned out to help.
