Indianapolis,IN : Cyclist dead after being struck by vehicle on city’s west side on July, Monday 17th 2017
A bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon.
It happened around 2 p.m. in the area of West Washington Street and South Tibbs Avenue. Police say a car struck a bicyclist after the vehicle jumped a curb and hit a guardrail before crashing into a pole.
The bicyclist died at the west-side scene.
“That is one of my greatest fears right there, being on my bike and getting hit you know, accidentally,” said Terrence Pollard. Pollard is an Indianapolis resident. He tells 24 Hour News 8 he rides his bike to work in that area every day.
He said the broken bicycle and debris scattered across the road was hard to look at.
“There is quite a bit of debris scattered into the street as well as up on the walk and that would indicate some speed,” said Sgt. Christian Nielsen with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Right now it is unclear how fast the car was going. The driver and his passenger had to be extricated from the car because it was so badly damaged. They were taken to the hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
The victim’s identity is not yet being released.
