Jefferson County, TX: Sleepy driver caused accident along I-10 on Monday, August 3rd 2015

A spokesperson for The Department of Public Safety said a driver falling asleep caused an accident on Interstate 10 around 10:30 a.m. Monday.The two-vehicle collision happened in the westbound lanes near FM 365 in Jefferson County.According to Trooper Stephanie Davis, a Chevrolet passenger vehicle was traveling west on Interstate 10 in the inside lane (left lane). According to the driver, he fell asleep at the wheel and drifted into the outside lane, clipping the back of an 18-wheeler. This collision caused the Chevrolet to drive slightly off the roadway, striking the guardrail. After striking the guardrail, the Chevrolet passenger vehicle spun back into the roadway and was struck by a 2015 Freightliner.The driver of the Chevrolet passenger vehicle, identified as Nacquinta Johnson, 36, of Round Rock, Texas, was taken by ambulance to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth with minor injuries. The driver of Freightliner, John Tolbert, 66, of Plano, Texas, was not injured in the crash.Johnson was issued a citation for failure to drive in a single lane.
