Colorado Springs, CO : Two teenagers dead and one injured when the driver ran a stop sign, lost control and crashed on early Monday morning September 1st 2014

The Colorado State Patrol has released its preliminary report on a crash that killed two teenagers and put a third in the hospital. There were four teens in the car when the driver ran a stop sign, lost control and crashed. The accident happened near the intersection of Hodgen Road and Roller Coaster Road in Black Forest at around 1 a.m. on Monday, September 1, 2014. The newly released report says that the driver was going 80 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone when he failed to stop at a stop sign. It says the car went airborne three times before landing in an embankment, crashing through a fence and colliding with some trees. Three of the four teens were wearing seatbelts. One of the boys who died, Beau Begier, 17, was thrown from the car. The 17-year-old driver, whose name is being withheld because he's a juvenile, was under the influence of alcohol according to investigators. The driver appeared in court with his parents before Magistrate Jeffrey Saufley on Tuesday. Saufley ruled that the boy be held in juvenile detention without bond pending a hearing Friday afternoon. The boy's attorney, V. Iyer of Englewod, was present in court but declined an interview, saying he'll release a statement "when the time is right." "The family is just devastated by this," Iyer said. "We're investigating this further. Let's add some dignity to this before giving any statements." Ryan Pappas, 18, and Beau Begier, 17, both of Monument, died in the crash. Mitchell Clark, 17, of Monument, was seriously injured and is being treated at a hospital. The driver suffered minor injuries but was later released from a hospital and taken to the Spring Creek Youth Services Center in Colorado Springs. "They knew each other," Iyer said of the teens. "They were friends." Authorities said the boys attended Palmer Ridge High School together until the driver moved to Parker and was attending school there. The vehicular homicide and vehicular assault charges faced by the driver could result in a maximum prison sentence of 12 years.
