Hesperia,CA : 5-year-old girl in ‘critical condition’ after crash on October, Thursday 5th 2017
A 5-year-old girl was taken to a trauma center after she was seriously injured in a crash here Thursday evening, authorities said.
Reported at 5:35 p.m., the crash involved two vehicles and occurred at the intersection of Escondido Ave and Hollister Street. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials said a 2-year-old boy and two women were also injured, and a section of Escondido Avenue was closed for several hours as officials investigated.
According to Hesperia Sheriff’s Sgt. Doug Hubbard, the crash occurred as a woman in a white Ford Focus headed south on Escondido Avenue, while a woman and two children in a gray Scion TC headed east on Hollister Street.
“The gray car pulled out in front of the white car and the white car had no time to react,” Hubbard said. “The white car struck the other vehicle on the driver’s side.”
The crash occurred near a residential area, and several residents told the Daily Press the intersection is prone to serious crashes. Christine Olguin, who lives near the intersection, said her son was once injured in a crash right there.
Olguin, along with several others, called for city officials to place additional safety measures at the intersection, such as a four-way stop or stoplight.
“Even just one stop sign right here would be beautiful,” Olguin said. “There’s been so many accidents here.”
