TRIMBLE, AL : Troopers say alcohol, speed factors in wreck that killed mother, daughter on Tuesday, March 28th 2017
A preliminary report from Alabama State Troopers says alcohol and speed were possible factors in a head-on collision that killed a local mother and daughter Tuesday night.
A third victim was seriously injured and flown to UAB Hospital.
Tonya Busbee, 34, and Rhianna Busbee, 13, were identified as the two victims of the fatal wreck on County Road 813 near the bridge at Smith Lake, Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick said.
Troopers said Tonya Busbee was not wearing a seatbelt, and both she and her daughter were pronounced dead at the scene.
Jonathan Biggs, 53, of Ohio, was identified as the drive of the other vehicle who had to be airlifted from the scene.
Trooper Spokesman Curtis Summerville said the wreck remains under investigation.
Rhianna was a member of the Cold Springs High School Marching Band, which will hold a prayer vigil and grief support meeting at the band room 10 a.m. Thursday. Counselors will also be available Monday, April 3 when the students return from Spring Break.
