Socorro, NM : Fatal accident on I-25 in Socorro County on Monday, October 2, 2017

Monday evening, around 5:26 p.m. New Mexico State Police were called to a vehicle crash on I-25 Southbound near mile post 117.

Officers learned upon arriving on scene that Mrs. Sherri McCarthy (59) of Yuma, Arizona, was traveling south on Interstate 25 when she lost control of her 2016 Dodge Journey, entered the median and overturned. Mrs. McCarthy was not utilizing her seat belt properly at the time of the crash.

She was transported by air ambulance to University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, NM but succumbed to her injuries later that evening, and was pronounced deceased by the attending physician.

This crash is still under investigation with no further information available.
