Fairfield, VT : 51-year-old man killed in Fairfield motorcycle crash on Saturday, July 30, 2016
A 51-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday in Fairfield, according to the Vermont State Police.
David Chaplin of East Fairfield was pronounced dead at the scene of the 3:50 p.m. single-vehicle wreck, Trooper Kirsten Skelly said in a statement Saturday night.
The crash happened on Dodd Road when Chaplin was thrown from his 2008 motorcycle when the southbound vehicle went off the road and into a field, Skelly said. Chaplin was found about 30 feet into the field.
“The speed of the motor vehicle does not appear to be a contributing factor of this crash,” Skelly said. “It is unknown whether alcohol was a contributing factor.”
Chaplin was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, Trooper John Bruzzi of the St. Albans barracks said Sunday morning. "It looks like he struck a tree," Bruzzi said.
An investigation is ongoing.
