Bristol ,RI:Fifty-year-old Frank Sousa Bristol deputy chief killed in after pickup truck accident on Thursday ,August 27th 2015

Police say Bristol's deputy fire chief is dead after a pickup truck he was driving crossed over several lanes, struck metal fencing and hit a building.

Fifty-year-old Frank Sousa was killed in Thursday evening's accident. Town officials say he had been the deputy chief for four years. He was off-duty at the time of the crash.

Sousa was extricated from his truck by Bristol police and fire departments. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

What remains of the truck was hauled away.

An investigation is ongoing.

Officials say flags have been lowered at the town's fire stations.
