GILBERTS, IL : Dixon man injured in crash on Thursday, March 23rd 2017
A three-car crash along Interstate 90 near Gilberts on Thursday morning, just west of Chicago, left a young boy dead, a Dixon man severely injured, and two other adults with non life-threatening injuries.
According to a State Police news release, a preliminary investigation found that a Ford Taurus, a Ford Fusion and a Ford F150 pickup truck were traveling west along I-90 after 10 a.m. when the Taurus either stopped or was slowly rolling in the middle lane of traffic when it was rear-ended by the Fusion.
The pickup truck, driven by a 65-year-old man from Friendship, Wisconsin, was traveling behind the two cars and attempted to avoid the collision, but rear-ended the Fusion.
Paramedics took the driver of the Taurus, a 26-year-old Rockford woman, and the driver of the Fusion, a 48-year-old man from Zionsville, Indiana, to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
One of the two passengers in the Taurus, a 30-year-old Dixon man, was airlifted to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with life-threatening injuries.
The second passenger of the Taurus, a 3-year-old boy from Rockford, was taken by paramedics to Centegra Hospital in Huntley where he was pronounced dead.
Police had not released the names of any of the victims as of Thursday night.
The crash remains under investigation.
