NEAR WILLARD, MO : Pastor remembers Willard woman killed in a crash on Thursday, December 8th 2016
An Ozarks wife and mother is dead and troopers said it is possible the driver of the minivan which struck her car was driving drunk.Church members said Jill Morrison attended church at Water Mill Church of Christ every Sunday, but you might not have seen her in these pews because she was always helping out. She leaves behind a husband, children, and community members who adored her.
“These two little ones we’ve known since Travis got up and told us they were expecting them,” said Water Mill Church of Christ Pulpit Minister, Bill McFarland. “This is the little ones, the twins.”
The Morrison twins, eleven-year-olds Claudia and Elijah, lost their mom Thursday night after troopers say a car swerved across the center lane and hit them.
“All of us are heartbroken, but happy for what our faith means right now,” McFarland stated.
Troopers said they are not sure who was driving the car that hit them because both people inside said they were not driving.
"That's why it's important for our crash investigative team to be a part of this investigation to look at the physical evidence on the scene to look at who was driving," stated Missouri State Highway Patrol Sergeant Jason Pace.
He said it is possible the driver of the car was drunk and, since they do not know who was driving, they tested both people inside the car.
“I did not know that and I don’t know what all the details are. This is life and we find out there are consequences to things that are hurtful,” McFarland said.
Inside Water Mill Church of Christ, church members said Jill Morrison there is a long list of ways she helped people. They say Morrison helped in the nursery, taught first greaders, helped decorate hallways, and she and her would help plan with the weddings and events. Mrs. McFarland said she even was working on the ladies day moments before she died.
“It’s a very, very difficult thing for me because this is a person that I have a great deal of love and respect for. I’ve known her since the fourth grade,” stated McFarland.
Now McFarland said it is up to her church family to take care of her kids and husband like she took care of them.
“We’re sorry to be apart. I’ll say it that way. All I can think of is this is why we’re doing this and we’ll try to love and care for each other and deal with it that way,” finished McFarland.
Church members said Jill Morrison also served as PTA President at her kids’ school. By all accounts she was actively involved in the community. They said Sunday will be hard at church without her.
Troopers said this could be the third drunk driving car crash within the past week.
