An Aurora man died early Sunday when his vehicle crashed into another vehicle while he was trying to flee police for running a red light in downtown Aurora, police said.
Mark S. Brown, 47, was pronounced dead shortly after 2 a.m. at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Benton Street, the Kane County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.
A sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop Brown for going through a red light at Broadway Avenue (Route 25) and Ashland Avenue, just over a mile from the collision site.
The driver refused to stop when the officer activated his emergency lights and siren, police said. The deputy discontinued the pursuit and, a short time later, the fleeing vehicle collided into another vehicle at the intersection, police said.
The occupants of the other vehicle were not hurt, police said. The Kane County Major Crimes Unit and the Aurora Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the case.
