West Yellowstone, Montana
A baby less than a year old was ejected from a rollover wreck on Interstate 90 west of Bozeman on Friday evening, crash investigators said.
The wreck happened at about 5:40 p.m. when the driver of a small SUV with California plates lost control of the vehicle about 2 miles east of the Three Forks exit. The westbound vehicle rolled several times and came to a rest on its top in the highway median.
A baby riding in the car was ejected from the wreck and seriously hurt, patrol Sgt. Pat McLaughlin said. He added that a car seat was also thrown from the wreck, but McLaughlin said they aren’t sure whether the child was in the seat at the time.
The child’s parents were also in the car. The driver was wearing a seat belt. The other parent was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected; however, neither parent was significantly hurt, McLaughlin said.
None of their names were released.
The child was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Bozeman.
The cause of the wreck is under investigation. Traffic was reduced to one lane in both directions during the investigation and was expected to stay that way for hours into the night.
In addition to the highway patrol, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, Manhattan and Belgrade police, Three Forks and Willow Creek fire departments, Three Forks ambulance and American Medical Response were at the scene.
