NEW HOLLAND, SD : 10-year-old boy killed, five others injured in crash near Platte on Wednesday, 24th August, 2016

A 10-year-old boy was killed and five people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday east of Platte, near Dakota Christian School.A 2000 Ford Ranger pickup truck, driven by a 14-year-old boy, was traveling south on 376th Avenue at 3:30 p.m. when it entered the intersection with South Dakota Highway 44 and collided with a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling east on Highway 44, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
The three occupants in the pickup the 14-year-old driver, 11-year-old female and 10-year-old boy were not wearing seat belts and were ejected. The driver and the 11-year-old girl suffered minor injuries. The 10-year-old boy was killed.
The crash occurred near Dakota Christian School, a private, faith-based school for students in pre-kindergarten through high school.
The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, 27, as well as a 2-year-old female and 4-year-old male, suffered minor injuries. The juveniles were in child seats. It is unknown if the driver was wearing a seat belt.
Names of those involved were not released pending notification of family. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Other responding agencies were the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Platte Fire and Rescue and Platte Ambulance.
