A Coachella man died in a collision on Interstate 10 Saturday afternoon.

Robert Sawaya, 61, was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. Saturday at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, according to the Riverside County Coroner's office.

At about 2:50 p.m., Sawaya was heading east on I-10 when he collided with a 2005 Ford Focus just east of Monroe Street.

He was driving a 2017 Buick SUV that overturned and came to a stop on the right dirt shoulder. Sawaya wasn't wearing his seatbelt and was thrown into the back of his SUV, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Paramedics took him to the hospital, where he died.
