Lenoir,NC : Two killed in Lenoir crash on August, Wednesday 16th 2017

A driver and passenger were killed in a single-vehicle crash in Lenoir Wednesday.

The deadly crash happened around 8:03 p.m. in the 1800 block of Valway Road.

Police say 39-year-old Darrell Dean Proffit was driving a white Toyota pickup when he ran off the right side of the road, got back on the road, crossed the center line, over-corrected and crashed into a large tree.

Police say Proffit and his passenger, 28-year-old Elizabeth Dawn Collins, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Both were wearing their seatbelts.

Investigators are working to determine whether there were any contributing factors.
