Sacramento, CA : CHP officer dies in Sacramento motorcycle crash on Wednesday evening, February 22, 2017

Officials say a California Highway Patrol officer died after crashing his motorcycle while chasing a suspect in Sacramento.

Sacramento television station KCRA reports Officer Lucas Chellew was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Authorities say the crash happened Wednesday evening near Stockton Boulevard and Fruitridge Road.

No other details were provided.

Chellew was an 8-year veteran of the CHP. He leaves behind a wife and children.
