Tallahassee, FL : Two killed in separate Interstate 4 crashes in Hillsborough on Sunday, 18th September 2016
Two people were killed Sunday morning in separate crashes on Interstate 4 eastbound eight miles away from each other in Hillsborough County. In one crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of a 2005 GMC Sierra, a 31-year-old man from Apollo Beach, was killed in a crash involving one other car near mile marker 9. Troopers did not immediately release the name of the driver because next of kin had not been notified.
According to a FHP report, the driver of the GMC Sierra was traveling eastbound on I-4 around 7:30 a.m. in the inside lane. A second driver, John Simon, Jr., 60, of Tampa, was also driving his 2012 Ford Expedition eastbound in the center lane.
Deputies say the GMC attempted to make a lane change to the center lane and failed to yield the right-of-way to Simon. The right side of the GMC struck the left front of Simon's Expedition and rotated, skidded off the roadway and collided with a large concrete pipe on the outside shoulder and overturned. The driver was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he died from injuries from the crash.
Alcohol is not considered to be a factor in the crash, according to the report. Simon was not injured.
In the other unrelated fatal crash, authorities say Krystal Andreu, 23, of Plant City was heading eastbound west of Branch Forbes Road when her 2006 Suzuki motorcycle overturned and headed out of the roadway.
According to a report, Andreu was struck by a 2015 Toyota Camry driven by Trung Nguyen, 54, of Estero. The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. Sunday near mile marker 17.
