Wilmington, DE : 52-year-old Milton woman killed after a crash involving a DART bus and SUV southeast of Bridgeville on Friday morning, October 28, 2016
A 52-year-old Milton woman was killed Friday morning following a crash involving a DART bus and an SUV southeast of Bridgeville, state police said.
Tina M. Caputo was was pronounced dead as the scene. The DART bus driver and six passengers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier, a state police spokesman.
The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. when Caputo, who was driving a 2015 Jeep Latitude, was stopped on the westbound shoulder of Seashore Highway (SR404) west of Cannon Road. Caputo then made a U-turn from the westbound shoulder directly in front of the eastbound DART bus being driven by 46-year-old Estaban Vicente-Morales, of Georgetown.
As as a result, Fournier said the front of the bus struck the right side of the Jeep. After the impact, the Jeep rotated in a clockwise direction and traveled off the south side of the road where it overturned onto its left side. The DART bus continued in an easterly direction, remaining in the eastbound travel lane, where it came to a controlled stop.
Vicente-Morales, who was properly restrained, was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released. Six bus passengers, traveling from the Bridgeville area to Georgetown, were also taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released.
The state's Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident, Fournier said. Speed and alcohol were not a factor on the behalf of either driver.
Seashore Highway, which was closed for approximately four hours, has reopened.
