Sam Rosoff said he and Bridget Klecker became close friends during the four years they lived as roommates in San Francisco’s Outer Sunset neighborhood.
But over the weekend, Rosoff had the painful task of making arrangements with the 42-year-old’s family after she was struck and killed in a crosswalk Friday night by the driver of a Toyota Corolla who was fleeing police through city streets.
Around 30 people, including Rosoff, gathered at 1 p.m. Sunday near a growing memorial of flowers at California and Kearny streets, near where Klecker was hit, to exchange kind words and memories of their fallen friend.
Meanwhile, police continued their search for the Corolla’s driver and passengers, who escaped from pursuing officers after they plowed into a second pedestrian, crashed into a vehicle, and ultimately ditched their stolen car on Treasure Island before taking off into the night.
“It’s surreal,” Rosoff said, grieving hard for his lost friend Sunday. “She was the nicest, warmest, kindest person — she didn’t have a mean bone in her body.”
He added that Klecker helped raise one of his dogs, named Rasputin, and once they realize “she’s not coming home, I don’t know what they are going to do.”
Klecker — who was described as a Giants fanatic — had amassed a large, tight-knit group of friends over the past two decades in San Francisco after she moved from Silver Spring, Md., in the mid-1990s to work at Tower Records at Stonestown Galleria.
