Oak Ridge, TN : Two bystanders help rescue man from fiery car crash Saturday on September 20, 2014
A crash on the Oak Ridge Turnpike had the road shut down near the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for a little more than an hour around 1:45 p.m. Saturday.
The Oak Ridge Fire Department says 43-year-old Thomas Debusk, of Knoxville, was driving when his van ran off the road. It hit an above ground natural gas pipeline and started a small fire.
Officers say Oak Ridge Animal Control Officer Sara Walter, who was working at a nearby pet adoption event, ran across the road to help out.
Walter and Danny Mealer broke out the driver's window, pulled him out, offered first aid.
Debusk was taken to U.T. Medical Center with minor injuries.
Two officers received minor injuries. They were treated at Methodist Medical Center and released.
