WEST WINDSOR, NJ : Motorcyclist killed on Sunday, July 23, 2017
Authorities on Tuesday identified the motorcyclist killed in the Sunday crash near the Quakerbridge Mall.
John Pelc, 55, of Parlin was pronounced dead at the scene after an alleged drunk driver struck a car and then his 2003 Yamaha XV1 motorcycle, police said. The crash occurred at about 1 p.m.
The driver, Ram R. Thatigutla, 50, of West Windsor was arrested near the scene and later charged with death by auto, leaving the scene of a fatal collision and having open container of alcoholic beverage.
Police said Thatigutla ran from his vehicle before collapsing on a concrete median, where citizens detained him.
Thatigutla is scheduled to have a detention hearing on Friday morning in Mercer County Superior Court in Trenton, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office confirmed.
The woman driving the Hyundai Sonata that Thatigutla first struck has not been identified, other than being a 48-year-old from Lawrence. She was taken to a Trenton hospital with a head injury.
