Newark, DE : Wrong-way driver killed in a fiery crash with a tractor-trailer on I-95 near Newark on Thursday, April 16, 2015

Delaware State Police say one person is dead after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 95 near Newark.

The crash occurred after 2 a.m. Thursday when police say a Chevrolet Impala traveling southbound in northbound lanes hit the front of Freightliner tractor and the Impala was engulfed in flames when it stopped on the shoulder. Police say a Volkswagen Jetta then hit the tractor's front axle, which was torn off in the initial crash.

Police say the driver of the Impala died at the scene and an autopsy will be conducted. His name is being withheld pending identification and notification of his next of kin.

Police say the driver of the tractor was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the driver of the Jetta wasn't injured.
