WARREN, OH : Man hurt when car crashes into Giant Eagle on Friday, September 22nd 2017
A man was taken by helicopter to the hospital after the vehicle he was driving crashed 12:30 a.m. Friday into the Giant Eagle on Elm Road, according to a Trumbull County 911 call log.
The helicopter landed in the front of the parking lot around 1:40 a.m. after the driver crashed behind the store into a grounded transformer, according to the call log.
Some in the immediate area lost power, but it was restored just after 10 a.m., according to a spokesman with Ohio Edison.
The man’s identity and condition have not been released. Howland police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted Warren police and emergency medical technicians at the scene.
A witness said there was a strong odor of gasoline after the crash and several gas containers were found in the vehicle. On Friday, the odor remained strong in the rear of the building.
