Chambersburg, Pennsylvania
Four people were hospitalized Monday afternoon after two pedestrians were struck during a crash that involved two cars on U.S. 30 in Guilford Township, Pa., Pennsylvania State Police said.
The accident happened shortly after 4 p.m., when an eastbound 1996 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Denis A. Rohrbaugh Jr., 46, struck a 2009 Nissan Altima that was making a left turn onto Crider Avenue, according to a state police news release.
The crash caused the Nissan to spin and strike two men who were walking east on the shoulder of the roadway, police said.
The pedestrians, Matthew Showalter, 29, and Franklin Gingrich, 53, were flown to York (Pa.) Trauma Center. Both men were listed in satisfactory condition Tuesday morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Rohrbaugh was flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where he was treated and later released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Hope E. Lewis, 67, the driver of the Nissan, was treated at Chambersburg Hospital and later released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Both vehicles sustained major damage and had to be towed from the scene, police said.
U.S. 30, also known as Lincoln Way East in that area, was closed for about 90 minutes while rescue workers responded to the scene. The accident occurred east of Norlo Park.
