CHESTERFIELD, MO : 1 dead after I-64 crash involving wrong-way driver, 3 other vehicles on Saturday, 9th November 2024
A man driving the wrong way on Interstate 64's eastbound lanes was killed after a head-on collision Saturday evening, according to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
According to the report, the wrong-way driver was a 79-year-old from Beaufort, Missouri. Driving a cargo van, the Beaufort man crashed his vehicle into a pickup truck and pushed it into the path of a semitractor, causing the semitractor to crash into the rear of the pickup truck.
The cargo van, still driving west on I-64's eastbound lanes, struck the front of a sedan.
First responders with the Monarch Fire Protection District responded to the crash, but the Beaufort man died at the scene minutes after the collision, the MSHP report said. The cargo van was destroyed. Investigators do not know if he was wearing a seatbelt.
