Pleasant Hill, OR : Woman killed, 2 men injured in a three-vehicle accident on Highway 58 just east of Lowell on Thursday afternoon, April 14, 2016
A Portland woman was killed and two men were injured in a three-vehicle accident on Highway 58 Thursday afternoon just east of Lowell, Oregon State Police said.
A preliminary investigation suggests that a 1991 Chevrolet pickup towing a 1999 Jeep Cherokee was traveling west when it crossed the centerline, striking an eastbound 1999 Ford F350 pickup head-on, police said.
The driver of the Chevrolet pickup, 68-year-old Emmett L. Bemrose of Portland, was seriously injured. His passenger, Ratree T. Bemrose, also 68, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the Ford pickup, Jerry R. Cargil, 53, of Oakridge, received minor injuries, police said.
One of the vehicles caught fire as a result of the crash, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Highway 58 was closed for 1 1/2 hours until one lane was opened for alternating traffic flow.
State police and ODOT were assisted at the scene by the Lowell and Eugene Springfield fire departments. Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
