Austin,TX : Texas official charged with intoxicated manslaughter in crash that killed father, son on July, Monday 3rd 2017

A Texas City commissioner has been charged with two counts of intoxicated manslaughter after she slammed into a pickup truck, killing a father and son, police said.

Dee Ann Haney, 54, acknowledged she had smoked marijuana before the crash on Interstate 45, Galveston Police Capt. Joshua Schirard told InsideEdition.com Monday night.

The local politician was arraigned, but did not enter a plea, Schirard said. She was released on $100,000 bail.

Haney plowed into a truck stopped on the side of the highway, police said. Van Duoc Le, 59, and his son, Phue Hong Le, 33, were trying to secure a sheet of Plexiglass in the truck bed when they were struck and killed, according to authorities.

Haney failed a field sobriety test at the scene, police said.

She also is an employee of Texas A&M University at Galveston, working as a lab safety and training coordinator.

The university issued a statement, saying, “We learned this morning that an employee of Texas A&M University at Galveston, Dee Ann Haney, was involved in a vehicle accident … that resulted in two deaths. Our deepest condolences go to the families of those who lost their lives.”
